OTTAWA, ON–STACS DNA Inc., the only DNA sample processing software provider, today announced that the Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) has purchased STACS-CW Enterprise™ software, which has reduced the Patrol’s time required to complete specific DNA lab processes and made accurate documentation more easily available.
The time to document a sample has been cut in half as most of the data is now automatically entered into the STACS® application via barcode. Moreover, the peer review process—previously covering the entire start-to-finish processes and requiring opening several different documents for each sample —is now done at each step, slashing the review process time per sample by 57%.
MSHP’s DNA lab needed a system that would support batching samples as well as integrating instruments and robotics. They chose STACS-CW Enterprise as it was the only solution on the market that focused solely on the unique methods of processing DNA samples that are not seen in other disciplines like trace or toxicology. In addition, STACS DNA customized the solution to meet MSHP’s specific workflows.
Their laboratory system-wide LIMS, originally designed 12 years ago and implemented 5 years ago, was built on LOTUS Notes and made extracting data about sample processing incredibly labor-intensive. Data and notes were entered into a spreadsheet but became impossible to track. Processing changed over time, robotics were implemented, and the hours required to document steps increased. A process-mapping exercise highlighted gaps caused by their LIMS and workflow and led to their decision to implement STACS-CW Enterprise.
